Lady Pioneer Mea Starkey, shown soaring at the net in previous action, had 5 kills to help WCHS go on the road to beat Franklin County on Monday.

The Warren County High School volleyball team got a win in Winchester on Monday, beating Franklin County in four sets.

With the win, the surging Lady Pioneers (4-2) have now won four of their last five.

WCHS coach Erin Blalock said, “There were good plays made all around tonight. Dani (Reno) had a good night and Mea (Starkey) and Marli (McBride) made some really great plays when we needed them.”

Coach Blalock continued, “We got a little careless in the third set and made too many unforced errors. When it came down to the end of the fourth set, the girls just kept battling and got it done. They were down 22-20, but knew what they needed to do to win. They fought for every point and never gave up on themselves or their team. The last point was secured by those two leading seniors, with a set from Sadie (Simmons) and a dink to the open spot from Sam (Jennings). It was a good win for this team.”

Jennings led the Lady Pioneers with 15 kills and 11 digs. Simmons added 14 assists and 6 digs.

In other statistics of note, Danika Reno was a serving machine with 6 aces. Reno also had 10 kills and 7 digs.

Bella Cantrell had 9 assists and 5 digs. Mea Starkey had 8 digs and 5 kills, while Jessie Young had a productive day with 6 aces and 8 digs.

The freshman team played the JV match and won in three sets.
