Everything came up aces as the varsity WCHS Lady Pioneer volleyball team (11-3, 4-3) hosted Cumberland County’s Lady Jets on Tuesday night and earned a district win.
The JV Lady Pioneers (9-0) followed suit, defeating the Lady Jets in two straight games.
Varsity match scores were 25-12, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-22.
“This was the best match we have had as far as keeping our composure, yet playing with high intensity at the same time,” said WCHS coach Katie Rogers. “For the most part, the girls did not let up during this match. We played to our level of play throughout the whole match. It has been a very long time since the Warren County volleyball team has gotten off to this good of the start and I couldn’t be more proud of how far they have come. The girls are having fun playing together and our chemistry on the court is helping us win ball games.”
In the varsity match, Lady Pioneer Hope Mullican stacked up six aces, while Emily Mikkola and Hailey Wood both served two. Lauren Hennessee headed up assists with 16 followed by Wood with 12.
Bethany Fye was spot-on with 29 kills and eight blocks, while Hope Mullican had five kills. Mullican, Fye and Brooke Murphy had 13, nine and six digs, respectively.
In JV action, Reagan Whitlock aced six with four digs. Marah Wanamaker aced four, had four digs and one assist. Ashton Whiles had two assists, Tyra Wright had five kills and one block, Megan Davis, Taylor Pegg and Beth Vaughn had two kills each, while Bri Young had four digs.
