WCHS teams prepare for postseason

It's must-win time for the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers. Postseason play will begin this week and both Warren County squads, now no longer in a four-team district, will have to win their first games in the District 9-4A tournament to keep the season going.

The Pioneers, who will enter with some momentum after beating Lincoln County 61-53 Thursday behind a 29-point, 10-rebound performance from Treyton Terry, will have the luxury of a home crowd in their elimination game. By virtue of being the higher seed in the first round (Warren County is the No. 3 seed), it will face Spring Hill at home Tuesday at 6 p.m. With a win, Warren County would clinch its fifth straight region bid.

The Pioneers, once the leader of the district before the injury bug bit, would need three straight wins to claim back-to-back district titles (as well as their fourth championship in five years).

The Lady Pioneers, No. 6 in the seeding, will have to travel to face Columbia Monday with their season on the line. Warren County has lost its last eight district matches after beating Shelbyville Jan. 12, but the Lady Pioneers were more competitive lately, including Thursday's 83-61 loss at Lincoln County.

Bri Taylor (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Brinlee Griffith (17 points, three 3-pointers) are coming off big performances for the Lady Pioneers against the Lady Falcons.

The semifinals and finals of the District 9-4A tournament will be played at Coffee County High School.
