Warren County has its first official swim team coached by Shawn Daniels and she has a certification with the American Coaches Associates. Coach Daniels coaches the year-round swim team.
Last Friday, the Pioneer swim team went to Nashville Aquatic Center to compete in the high school regionals. Hayden Everett and Ben Sweeton qualified for the state competition to be held at the University of Tennessee on Feb. 13-14.
Everett qualified to swim in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and 500-yard freestyle, while Sweeton qualified to swim in the 100-yard fly.
Emma Petersen swims for Webb but resides in McMinnville. She qualified to swim in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and the 500-yard freestyle.
Petersen will also compete in the 200-yard individual medley.
All six members of the Warren County swim team travel five to six days a week to practice in an indoor swim facility. Warren County would need an indoor pool for the swim team to practice here.
It has been brought to the attention of a School Board member about such a facility, but an indoor pool is not in the school system’s building plans at this time.
An indoor pool has been discussed by the city of McMinnville in the past, but is currently not an item of top priority with Park Theatre restoration, Blue Building discussion, and future plans for the Police Department.
