The Lady Pioneer shutout streak came to a screeching halt Sunday in Manchester.
Coffee County downed the WCHS softball team 6-1, ending the team’s three-game winning streak and earning a sweep in the season series.
Warren County (6-5-1) came into the matchup with a 21-inning opponent scoreless streak. The Lady Raiders snapped it in the first inning.
Keri Munn drilled an RBI double and Haley Richardson connected on a run-scoring single in the first, giving Coffee County a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Raiders put the game away in the fifth, scoring one run on a passed ball and a second on an error. A third run came in on a RBI groundout, pushing the home team ahead 6-1.
Warren County’s lone run came in the first inning when Ashton Whiles blasted a solo home run over the center-field fence. It was the senior’s third home run of the season, and 15th of her career. She stands two behind Lauren Wilkinson’s career record (17).
Whiles and Rhealee Johnson had two hits each for the Lady Pioneers, who left five runners on base and struck out 11 times against Munn. Madison Hollis and Calyn Damon each finished with one hit.
Johnson took the loss, pitching four innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three and walking three. Sadie Simmons gave up three runs on three hits in her two innings of work.
