WCHS shut out again
Wyatt Wilson 1.jpg
Wyatt Wilson was the lone Pioneer to get a hit in Wednesday's 10-0 loss at Nolensville. Through two games, Warren County has yet to score a run in shutouts against the Knights and Mt. Juliet.

The Pioneers are still searching for their first win – and run – of the season.

Warren County was run-ruled 10-0 Wednesday night against Nolensville, sending the group to an early 0-2 start. Wyatt Wilson came up with the team’s first two hits of the season, but he provided the lone offense on another scoreless night for the Pioneers.

As was the case against Mt. Juliet in the season-opening 1-0 loss, the Pioneer offense struggled against a quality starter. Nolenville’s Tyler Hummel was able to shut down Warren County, allowing just the Wilson brothers to reach base. Westen Wilson drew two walks in the contest.

Free passes played a big part in Nolensville’s ability to put the Pioneers away. Warren County walked eight batters, including starter Kason Holder issuing six, and hit three more Knights. Holder took the loss, allowing four runs while pitching three-plus innings despite just two Nolensville hits.

John Garrett allowed three runs in less than an inning of relief work. Bryan Bynum was touched up for two runs before recording an out, while Brady Melton gave up the game’s final score.

Jackson Hill broke the game open with a bases-loaded triple in the fourth, helping Nolensville take a 7-0 lead. Warren County walked three in the frame and hit two more batters.

Ethan Syling’s single ended the game in the fifth by run rule.

Warren County is hopeful it get back on the field this weekend, weather permitting and pending any potential TSSAA decisions to halt play due to coronavirus.

If games continue in the Grand Slam Challenge, the Pioneers are scheduled to play Dobyns Bennett at Riverdale Friday (4:30 p.m) and at Blackman Saturday (12:30 p.m.).
