Warren County High School basketball players put aside their jump shots to get another form of exercise Saturday morning. They helped put some of the finishing touches on a Habitat for Humanity house under construction on Fair Street.
Players from both the WCHS boys and girls teams were in attendance. The boys cleared brush around the yard while the girls handled painting. The heavy-duty construction work has already been complete.
Also in attendance were members of Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a few elected officials from city and county government.
The Habitat for Humanity home is the 27th for Warren County. It’s scheduled to be dedicated June 27. Lisa Taylor is the homeowner.
Taylor has worked on the project every step of the way and was on hand Saturday doing some painting. She said now that her home is nearly complete, she’s beginning to visualize about how to decorate.
“It’s something to see this built from the ground up,” said Taylor, who is currently a renter.
Habitat for Humanity got its start in Warren County in the fall of 1998. The homes are not free. The homeowner is granted an interest-free loan and much of the labor is volunteer. In return, the homeowner must provide “sweat equity” which is time spent working on other Habitat homes.
