Building a love for the game will be the goal for volleyball coaches Kelly Clayborne and Holly Morgan when they hold the Lady Pioneer volleyball camp next week.

Clayborne, the new coach at WCHS, and Morgan, who took Clayborne’s place at WCMS, are hopeful girls will come out and embrace the sport during the event, which will run April 29-30 and May 1 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Warren County High School.

“Volleyball is a sport that brings lifelong enjoyment,” said Clayborne, who took the job at WCHS in December after guiding the middle school program for three years. “Most girls have not had the opportunity to be exposed to the sport. Our camp offers kids a chance to learn the basic skills for serving, passing and hitting.

“We enjoy teaching this great game to girls of all skill levels.”

The camp is open to girls in grades 5-11. The cost is $40, which includes a camp shirt.

Morgan will enter her first year coaching next fall, but she’s no stranger to the game or the Lady Pioneer camp. Morgan was all-district and helped the Lady Pioneers reach the region tournament as a senior and has loved the sport since she was a young girl.

She hopes to pass on that passion at next week’s camp.

“This camp is truly for everyone. Volleyball shaped my school life as a teen and I’m happy to be in position to give others that same experience,” said Morgan.

Morgan also hopes to find the next group of great Lady Pioneers.

“This camp is so important to the Warren County program,” said Morgan. “Volleyball isn’t a sport you sign up for at a young age. It’s a sport girls are normally introduced to in fifth grade. I encourage anyone interested to come join us. Don’t let a lack of experience scare you away.”

The coaches also announced their upcoming tryouts before the camp. Morgan will hold WCMS tryouts Thursday, May 23 from 10 a.m. until noon at WCMS. Later that afternoon, Clayborne will work out prospective Lady Pioneers from 12:30-2 p.m. at Warren County High School.
