Rewriting record books became a theme across the county in 2022. Anna Jones and Christian Rogers became two of the best scorers in Boyd history, Noah Mason did things no Covenant Lion has ever done before and Braylon Grayson joined a prestigious club for Pioneer football.
Jones was the latest Lady Bronco to eclipse 1,000 points in her career, doing it in perfect fashion as the team’s sniper. Jones reached the 1,000-point plateau on a 3-pointer from right in front of the Lady Bronco bench during a blowout victory, prompting a big celebration for her and her teammates.
Rogers went all the way to 2,000 points as a Bronco, reaching rarified air among all the talented players who have suited up at Boyd. The big man with the ability to step out and hit 3-pointers would go on to be named a NACA All-American and lead the Broncos to a TSIAA Division 2 title.
Mason was able to break a record in 2022 that was set just a year prior when he topped Terry Hines’ mark for points in a career. Mason erupted as the No. 1 option as a senior, regularly turning in 30-point games and leading the Lions to a TNCAA championship along the way. His final basket at Covenant was a game winner at the buzzer in overtime of the state title game.
Grayson also reached the 1,000 mark as a senior, albeit his came on the gridiron. Grayson joined 1,000-yard rushing club for WCHS football, one that features less than 20 players. His final total – 1,530 career yards – placed him at No. 9 all-time, one spot above his older brother Isaiah Grayson.
Braylon also was named the Region 3-6A Defensive MVP in his final season.
