No program at WCHS is set up for more sustained success right now then the Pioneer wrestling team. The senior leaders who have helped establish a legacy of winning were honored Tuesday, going out on a high note as Warren County rocked Franklin County 63-17.

Brayden McKinley, Sabastien Smith, Jesse Dodson, PJ Truax and Matthew Starkey were all honored as the Pioneers closed the regular season in dominant fashion. Dodson, Truax, McKinley and Smith all picked up wins on their senior night, as did Raul Manus, Zerek Keel, Xavier Simmons, JR Mares, Jakoby Odineal, Jaylen Clayton and Cash Stephens for the Pioneers.

"It was a great night for our program," said coach Matt Turner. "We've been a young team for the last few years - we didn't even have a senior last year - but these guys have really helped establish our team as one of the best in the district during their time on the mat.

"I'm really happy to send them out with a big win on senior night and I'm looking forward to see what this team can do in the postseason."

Warren County will turn its attention to the region tournament, which will give all the Pioneers a chance to take on the best in the Midstate and fight their way toward the state tournament.

All the Pioneers who are able to advance in the region will get a hometown boost in the sectionals. This year's sectional event will be held at WCHS on Saturday, Feb. 17.

"It's going to be a big-time event. We'll have some of the best wrestlers and the best teams in the states represented and I think we'll have several of our own battling for a state spot too. It's a big deal for us to host and we're expecting a big turnout," said Turner.
