In a close matchup Saturday at Bobby Ray Elementary, the Southern Standard delivered a 36-27 win over Citizen’s Tri-County Bank in the Jaycee boys 15-18 age group.Citizen’s Tri-County defense stepped up in the first quarter, holding a 9-4 lead as Standard inside post player Ben Clark was double covered in the paint.A trey from Citizen’s Cameron Stepp, a field goal apiece by Jayren Perkins and Austin Jakes plus 2-for-2 by Jakes from the charity stripe gave Tri-County a boost in the first.By halftime, scores by Citizen’s Tri-County Bank fell sharply as Southern Standard held a second-quarter scoring rally. Led by Jalen Haston with eight inside points for the Standard, they grabbed a 21-12 halftime lead and kept it under wraps until the final buzzer.Standard point guard Thomas Judkins was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line down the stretch when Citizen’s Tri-County Bank extended its defense and was forced to foul. His free throws kept it from ever becoming a one-possession game in the final minute.The Southern Standard did an excellent job distributing the basketball as all six players posted points.Stepp was the offensive playmaker for Tri-County Bank as he scored a game-high 13 points for the team.
