Last Friday during halftime of the boys game at Charlie Dalton Gym, a new cheerleading team took the floor for the first time. They've been the talk of the town ever since.

The Sparkle Squad made its debut to rave reviews, and their encore performance is set for Friday night when the Warren County basketball teams take on DeKalb County.

"The Warren County Sparkle Squad is an inclusionary cheerleading squad made up of students from the middle school and high school," said Candice Willmore, who helped organize the team after getting the idea from a friend at Dobyns-Bennett High School. "I felt like we needed a team like this in Warren County, so I asked a few friends who helped make it happen."

Mary Payne, Stephanie Davis and Whitney Dyer serve as coaches for the team, which gets help from the varsity football cheerleaders. Cheerleading coach Stacey Elam and her team of cheerleaders have helped with practice and developing routines for performances.

"This has been great fun and a true project with many people helping with their loving hearts. We hope the Sparkle Squad will grow over the next few years," said Willmore.

The show during the DeKalb County game will occur at halftime of the boys game. The theme of the performance will match the season, as Christmas will take center stage.

Fans may want to find a seat early. The popularity of the Sparkle Squad should make for a full arena.
