After losing their first two games at home, the Warren County High School soccer team finally earned a win in McMinnville by defeating the Rhea County Eagles 2-1 on senior night.
With the win, the Pioneers go to 1-0 in the district and improve their overall record to 2-2.
Senior Evan Reynolds and freshman Adrian Tejas led the charge for the Pioneers, scoring a goal each. The first half was back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes until Reynolds scored to put the Pioneers up 1-0.
Things got testy throughout the half, but both teams kept their cool and with time dwindling down, the Pioneers scored again. Tejas scored from right in front of the goal, to give the Pioneers the advantage, 2-0, at the half.
The Eagles scored early in the second half to cut into the Pioneer lead, 2-1. The Pioneers got more shots on goal, but none of them found the back of the net to keep the score tied midway through the second half.
The Pioneers survived a scare with just a few seconds left, when the Eagles attempted shots at the Pioneer goal, just missing the shots and the Pioneers held on to win the match, 2-1 on senior night.
The Pioneers will be back in action Monday as they take on Cannon County here at home. The start of the match is set for 7 p.m.
