WCHS freshman Lauren Slatton has emerged as one of the best young golfers in Tennessee.
So it makes sense she’s the best golfer in her district.
Slatton proved that Monday in Cookeville when she shot an eye-opening 68 to finish as the low scorer in the girls district tournament. The round advances her to region tournament competition where she is a favorite to advance to the state.
WCHS golf coach J.W. Holt has praised Slatton all season, saying the work she devotes to the game clearly shows on the course. Slatton has been playing a hectic schedule since mid-March, doing her social distancing on the golf course and constantly working to refine her game.
She has performed among the leaders in junior golf tournaments around the region and beyond. She consistently shoots in the low 70s.
In boys competition, Warren County did not advance as a team, but Pioneer senior Colton Krech shot 80 to qualify for the region tournament as an individual.
Krech is capable of shooting in the 70s and a strong round in the region tournament could propel him to state competition.
The region tournament is this coming Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Cleveland Country Club.
