Local residents will have an opportunity to improve their skater skills at an upcoming skateboard clinic.
Vivid Skateboards is providing instruction at a Free Fall Skateboard Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Milner Recreation Center skate park.
“We have done several clinics every year for the past couple years and each time has been spectacular,” said Vivid Skateboards owner Dustin Smith. “Kids learn confidence, persistence, make friends, and get plenty of exercise. There is so much to learn from skateboarding. At the clinic we will mostly focus on the basics of skateboarding.”
There will be three, one-hour sessions teaching participants how to gain confidence on the skateboard.
“We will talk about the parts of a skateboard, falling, standing and pushing, and rolling down ramps. Some skaters who participate are a little more advanced and we offer intermediate coaching as well so everyone can come and enjoy the clinic,” he said.
Along with the free instruction, participants will also be going home with a free helmet provided by Pinnacle Orthopedics. The first session is at 9 a.m. and is for ages 6 to 12. The second session is also for ages 6 to 12 and will be at 10 a.m. The third session is for ages 12 and older and starts at 11 a.m.
“We will talk about the parts of a skateboard and falling as well as park etiquette,” said Smith. “We then separate into groups based on skill and I go around and work with each group. People are free to skate how they want and are encouraged to work together and talk about what works for them. It is always a great time.”
Vivid Skate will also have a booth set up where participants can browse and talk about skateboard equipment. To register for the free clinic, call Milner Recreation Center at 473-1212.
