Sina Neal ends Mud Bums' dominance

Penny Wanamaker hits a ball to left field during Newtown co-ed softball tournament action Wednesday night. Wanamaker and Sina Neal defeated the three-time reigning champion Mud Bums, 18-5.

There will be a new champion in Newton this season. In the final game of the night on Wednesday night in Newtown, Sina Neal battled against Mud Bums and was looking to knock the three-year in-a-row Newtown champions from tournament contention.
Mud Bums built a one-run lead in the first inning but its bats went cold the rest of the way, along with numerous walks and miscues in the field, to get eliminated by Sina Neal, 18-5.
Sina Neal used timely hitting at the plate to knock off the defending champs behind an impressive performance by Zack Fisher. Fisher went 4-for-4 with two singles and two doubles in the win, while Bubba Lee added three hits to the hit column.
In the heartbreaking collapse that’s difficult to explain, Mud Bums was led at the plate by Caleb Northcutt and Michael Thrower, who both went 2-for-2.
Sina Neal got on the board in the top of the first as Fisher scored on a fielder’s choice to give Sina Neal a one-run lead, 1-0.
In the bottom of the inning, Mud Bums took the lead away from Sina Neal thanks to two RBI singles, 2-1.
Sina Neal exploded for eight runs in the top half of the second courtesy of timely hitting up and down the lineup, to give them the comfortable advantage, 9-2, heading into the bottom of the inning.
Mud Bums got runners in scoring position in the bottom of the inning but only had one run come across to score as they continued to trail, 9-3, after two.
Sina Neal scored nine combined runs and Mud Bums scored two in the third and fourth innings, to give them 18-5 victory over Mud Bums, sending them packing, until next season and ending a dynasty run.
Sina Neal will face First National on Wednesday night to see who will meet Ramirez Transport in the championship game.
