Spring sports are having trouble breaking free from winter’s cold.
Games scheduled for Monday and Tuesday had to be pushed back, as temperatures made it impossible for the WCMS baseball and softball teams to take the diamond. Likewise, the WCHS baseball and softball teams pushed back scrimmages, hoping for a heat wave to get in some field work before their debuts next Monday, March 11.
Both WCMS teams were set to play home-and-home series with Coffee County Monday and Tuesday. Now, both squads are scrambling to make up the games this week.
The Pioneers are set to make the trip to Coffee County Wednesday, with the Red Raiders making the return trip to Warren County Thursday. Both games are still slated to start at 5:30 p.m. The WCMS baseball team is 1-1 currently, splitting its series with Shelbyville last week.
The 2-0 Lady Pioneer softball team will try to keep its perfect record intact Thursday night at home. The Lady Pioneers will welcome Coffee County for a 5 p.m. game before making the trip to Manchester Friday.
The WCMS softball team plays its home games at Warren County High School.
Coach Trice Powers and the WCHS baseball team will be back in action Thursday against Tullahoma. The scrimmage, originally scheduled for Wednesday, will start at 5 p.m.
The defending District 6AAA champion Lady Pioneers will travel to Oakland Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. scrimmage.
The WCMS track meet scheduled for Tuesday was also postponed. Coach Patty Kelly is still trying to find a make-up date.
