If coach Chris Madewell wanted an easy transition back into coaching, he picked the wrong position to lead on the Warren County High School football team.Coach Madewell returns to Warren County as the running backs coach and he will have his hands full trying to spread the ball around to a talented group of backs this season. The Pioneers have a running back for every style of play and it could come in handy as Warren County looks to be multiple on offense this season.Junior Cameron Lusk has the ability to pound other teams into submission with his size. Sophomore Bryson Lewis has the speed to break a long touchdown run on any play and junior D’Andre League is a shifty back who can run or catch out of the backfield.Add in the abilities of senior Kyle Rutledge, junior Drew Davidson and sophomore Tristan Reish and it’s no secret why the focal point of the Pioneer offense right now is its ground game.“We have different guys who do different things and are all talented in their own ways,” said Madewell.Lusk returns as the Pioneers leading rusher from a year ago. Lusk rushed for 446 yards on 113 carries last season and scored five times.League was right behind Lusk, finishing with 424 yards on 79 carries and three touchdowns. As a freshman, Lewis carried the ball just 21 times but gained 143 yards. While it would be easy to just rely on the three skilled returning running backs, Rutledge, Davidson and Reish have shown enough in practice to warrant carries when the season begins.Coach Madewell believes having six talented running backs is a good problem to have.“We can keep everybody fresh by rotating backs,” said Madewell.
