The Southern Standard, partnering with R3 Logistics and Mud Bums Family Sports Grill, we will be honoring a Pioneer of the Week throughout the year. Our honoree from Nov. 5 - Nov. 11 is WCMS Pioneer Dominic Robertson.
Warren County Middle School may have to be clearing out more room in the rafters of its gym. The Pioneer basketball team has started 6-0 and has its eyes of a Central Tennessee Conference championship.
If the Pioneers are to bring home a title this year, a lot of it will be thanks to the improving play of Dominic Robertson. The team's lanky wing has continued to be a defensive dominator - a role he has played most of his life on the hardwood - while also adding a scoring flare this year.
Warren County, which has started 6-0, has counted on Robertson's scoring and relentless defense to punish opponents all season. Robertson had a breakout game against Sparta last Friday, scoring 14 points in a 46-29 victory.
Robertson used his speed to get out on the break, improved handle to slice through the Sparta defense and a blossoming jumper that is becoming reliable out the 3-point line.
He followed it up with a season-high 15 points Monday against Tullahoma, where Warren County again dominated a CTC foe. The Pioneers topped visiting Tullahoma East 46-25.
Warren County will be in search of its seventh win Thursday when it plays at Franklin North.
