From the opening tip Tuesday, Jayden Reno was on fire. Sadly for the Boyd star, the rest of his team was ice cold. Despite Reno dropping 30 points Tuesday night, Boyd fell 74-49 to visiting Riverside Christian.
The Knights countered Reno's scoring barrage with two of their own. Will Eldridge scored 27 and Eli Wright added 26, proving to be a one-two punch the Broncos were unable to contain.
Early in Tuesday's contest, it didn't seem to matter how much Riverside could score. Reno was going to top it on his own. Boyd's talented senior was in full control of the offense from the tip, scoring 14 of his team's 19 first-quarter points. Reno started with a 3-pointer before slicing to the lane for a pair of layups. Riding a hot hand, Reno launched a contested 3-pointer late in the first quarter over two defenders, which splashed home to give his team a four-point lead at the first break.
Riverside Christian took over from there. The Knights outscored Boyd 25-5 in the second quarter, with Eldridge and Wright combining for 22.
Down 20-plus points most the second half, Reno launched one last effort in the fourth quarter. His 3-pointer, three-point play and late layup gave him a new season high in points.
Tyler Pomales added 7 point for the Broncos, while Joel Smith and Cain Buckner, who hit a buzzer-beating 3, each had 3.
