The Warren County High School baseball team kept its hot streak at the plate going with eight runs on 11 hits Wednesday night on the road against the Cookeville Cavaliers but it wasn’t enough as the Pioneers fell in a close game, 9-8.The Pioneers fell to 13-19 in the regular-season finale with the loss as they prepared for district tournament play Saturday at home.Colby Elkins led the charge at the plate, a day coming off his two-home run outburst, with a 3-for-4 showing with an RBI and a run scored. Brooks Helton and Will Lupo contributed two RBIs apiece, while Cole Estes and Ethan Smith added an RBI apiece.Trevor Collins suffered the loss for the Pioneers in relief, going two innings, surrendering five runs on six hits.The Pioneers got on the board first in the top of the first thanks to Elkins’ RBI double, 1-0. The Cavaliers answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead, 3-1, after one.The Pioneers tied things up in the top of the third.
