The Warren County High School Pioneer basketball team can go from zero to 68 in 4.0 quarters.At least the Pioneers did Thursday night in their first official game of the season, defeating Grundy County's Yellow Jackets, 68-41, in the Russell Barnett Tip-Off Classic in Tullahoma.With a first-quarter score of 7-4, the Pioneers showed they can amp up both the offense and defense creating numerous opportunities to control the speed and tempo of the game. In early game play, Warren County allowed Grundy to move and execute. It was 29-22 going into the break when head coach Chris Sullens must have turned up the volume because after three it was Pioneers on top 46-26.The decider was the pressing defense added to the game plan, giving Warren County access to more turnover points and the Pioneers took command.Leading the offense, as he recently did on the football field, was Isaiah Grayson with 22 total points, followed by Chance Hobbs, who hit for 16.Also scoring for Warren County were K'Rojhn Calbert with 7 points, Christian Locke 6, Caleb Newby and Bunker Brock both had 4 points, Isaac Golden scored 3 points and Sloan Seymour and McCall Turner both had 2 points.The Pioneers had a late game Thursday that wasn't finished by press time.
