Pioneers nab road win
WCHS - Keldrick Cox.jpg
Keldrick Cox has assumed a larger role in the WCHS Pioneer backcourt with Kaden Rutledge not expected to return this season due to injury.

The Pioneers used an explosive first quarter and a game-high 18 points from Sawyer Seymour to go on the road and beat Shelbyville on Tuesday night, 64-53.

Warren County built a 27-14 lead after the first quarter, then had to weather a scoring drought that allowed Shelbyville to claw back into the game.

Seymour hit two clutch 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help preserve the win. The Pioneers made 6-of-8 free throws in the fourth.

The win improves Warren County to 9-12 overall and 2-5 in district play. Both wins have come against Shelbyville, which falls to 1-5 in district.

The Pioneers will look for revenge Friday night when Coffee County visits Charlie Dalton Gym. The Red Raiders have beaten the Pioneers twice this season and have held Warren County to an average of just 33 points in those two meetings.

It appears the Pioneers will have to play the rest of the season without Kaden Rutledge, the only returning starter from last year’s team. Rutledge is not expected back due to a wrist injury.
