Pioneers enter playoffs with added confidence
WCHS travels to Knoxville
Warren County High School senior WR Brandon Velazquez took on a bulk of the running duties last week. At 5-foot-9, 190 pounds, Velazquez is versatile as a runner and receiver for the Pioneers.
Despite having been dealt a loss by Blackman last week, the Pioneers gave the Murfreesboro powerhouse team a real challenge staying close the entire game, containing the Blaze offense effectively and moving the chains on multiple scoring drives.A longer road trip this week to Hardin Valley Academy (7-3) in Knoxville will give Warren County another chance to use its tuned-up offense and maybe even be a spoiler for the Hawks who are rated in the top 10 as most likely to win the playoffs. Murfreesboro’s Oakland tops the list. The Pioneers (2-8) mixed it up and gained three first downs and a touchdown on their initial drive last week using WR Brandon Velazquez to do most of the heavy lifting when it came to rushing yards. Velazquez on the sweep worked well.
