The Pioneers will be playing in the postseason for at least another week. Warren County secured its fifth straight bid to the region tournament and pushed its way to the District 9-4A tournament semifinals Tuesday with a 65-43 victory over Spring Hill.
Warren County (15-13) got 26 points from Treyton Terry and 12 points each from Alex van Vuuren and Deashawn Adams to keep its season alive. The Pioneers will now meet Columbia in the semifinals Saturday in Manchester and could play for the championship next Tuesday.
The Pioneers seized control against Spring Hill with a 10-run to finish the first half, pushing Warren County ahead 32-20 at halftime. Terry sparked the run with a smooth up-and-under, getting two defenders to bite on a pump fake before finishing with his left hand.
Keyton Reno got into the mix with a swooping layup, catching the ball on the run with his right hand and finger-rolling a shot over a defender at the rim. Adams followed with a tough bucket in the paint and Aaron Templeton capped the run with a cutting layup give the Pioneers a big cushion entering the break.
Spring Hill rallied to get within five, 32-27, early in the third, but Adams responded with three straight layups to steady his team. The Pioneers finished the third on a 7-0 run to lead 45-33.
Warren County dominated the fourth, using two buckets from van Vuuren - a short jumper on the left baseline and a soaring putback off a Pioneer miss - to go up by 20. Terry wrapped up the contest by scoring 11 of his team's last 13 points to secure the victory.
