WCMS catcher Keynai Bryan had a sparkling season from the leadoff spot for the Pioneers.

The WCMS Pioneer baseball team had a long delay between its district tournament and the play-in game for the state tournament. The Pioneers hosted Stewarts Creek Tuesday night and lost 9-0.

The Pioneers finish the season 16-12.

It was a year where the Pioneers showed spurts of strong play, finishing April on a high note and then reaching the district tournament championship game.

Catcher Keynai Bryan emerged as an offensive force from the lead-off position in the batting order and Brody Womack showed his game awareness as captain of the infield when he played shortstop.

Womack also pitched, compiling a nice season. Lefty Sam Rivers showed spunk on the mound and had a complete-game shutout to his credit.

In the state tournament play-in game, a well-balanced Stewarts Creek team that could really hit the baseball was too much to overcome.

Conner Williams 2, Keynai Bryan 1, Tyler Adams 1, Brody Womack 1 and Jerren Harris 1.

Sam Rivers started and pitched 2.1 innings and gave up 7 hits and 4 earned runs. Brody Womack relieved Rivers and pitched 4.2 innings with 8 strikeouts and gave up 3 hits and 3 earned runs.
