Warren County is about to embark on another football coaching search.

Tom Moore is expected to resign as head coach of the Pioneers early this week. Moore will likely be accepting the same position with a new school soon, pending a background check.

Multiple current Pioneers confirmed Moore met with the team early Friday to discuss his impending departure. Coaches and support staff were also informed, with one commenting, “He’s gone.”

Statements from Moore and Warren County High School officials should come as early as Monday. A formal statement was expected late Friday afternoon, but was delayed. A late change-of-heart isn’t expected.

Moore was 8-34 in four years at Warren County.

Moore became the third coach in as many years when he was hired in 2015. He took over from Scott Smith, who was 4-6 in his lone season in Warren County.

The Pioneers enjoyed their best season under Moore in 2017, when the team finished 3-7. That year included a 2-0 start with big wins over White County and DeKalb County.

More will follow in Wednesday’s Standard.
