Meadows Homes could not withstand the display of fireworks by Newtown Meat Market. It was all offense and little defense on an unseasonably cool July Friday night. Newtown Meat Market sent out an assortment of bombs that ranged from singles to home runs.
Newtown Meat Market defeated Meadows Homes by a final score of 20-2 after a short three-inning game called on a run-rule.
Newtown Meat Market went to work right away in the top of the first. A pair of singles started the game off by Dakota Nicholas and Elijah Holder. Brock Watson ripped a double through the infield and scored Nicholas and Holder for a 2-0 lead. Austin Storie connected and went all the way around the bases with a home run and Newtown Meat Market took a 4-0 lead. Nick McNutt sent a line-drive into the gap for a double. Adam Owen, Emily Scott, and Page Duke all singled but Scott was called out at second base on a fielder’s choice. An out ended the inning but Newtown Meat Market led 5-0.
Meadows Homes picked up back-to-back outs to start the bottom of the first. Nathan Lemons was first for Meadows homes to reach first base. Ricky Bain connected on a pitch and smashed a ball into the gap in the outfield for a double. Lemons held up at third base. Out three followed to end the inning and Meadows Homes trailed 5-0.
In the top of the second, Newtown Meat Market started at the top of the order. A single, double, triple, and a home run were all hit before the first out was made. With Storie on second base after a double, three consecutive outs were made to end the inning. Newtown Meat Market extended its lead 10-0.
Meadows homes had a rough bottom of the second inning. The side was retired in order and Meadows Homes remained scoreless after two complete.
Newtown Meat Market continued to pound out the hits. Duke started the inning with a base hit single through the infield. After two outs, Holder doubled and Jarrett Winfree hit a two-run home run to extend the Newtown Meat Market lead to 13-0 just before the third out was made.
Meadows Homes started to put a string of hits together in the bottom of the third. Alex Pedigo singled up the middle and William Hemby connected on a pitch and drove it deep enough to land him on second base with a double. Brandon Steg and Lemons followed with a pair of singles. Jacob Bain reached first base before the inning ended and Meadows Homes got on the scoreboard but trailed 13-2.
Newtown Meat Market was back up to bat again and carrying a wave of momentum. Seven more runs crossed the plate in what would be the final inning. Newtown Meat Market extended its lead to 20-2.
With the bottom of the order coming up in the bottom of the fourth Meadows Homes' only offense during its last trip to the plate was a pair of singles, not exactly the way Meadows Homes wanted it to go. Newtown Meat Market defeated Meadows Homes by a final score of 20-2 and left the rest on the cutting room floor Friday night.
