There was action on the diamond at Morrison Ruritan Ball Park on Tuesday night with teams taking the field and plenty of fans in attendance.
The Elementary took on Walker Gardens in the 10-12 year-old league with Jaelyn Munoz on the mound for The Elementary and Peyton Rucker tossing pitches for Walker Gardens.
Before taking the mound, Munoz helped his cause by smacking an inside-the-park home run and helping The Elementary to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Elementary added to its lead in the second when Stevens Moore pounded a stand-up double to right that started a rally. Ethan Williams and Sheyenne Goodwin both singled with Williams’ single bringing Moore home. Loudon Bowdoin earned a base on balls to load the bases and Bella Campbell grounded out to first base, bringing in another run for The Elementary.
The Elementary rang up four more runs and found itself with a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the second, a lead that would hold up despite a strong comeback from Walker Gardens as the game progressed. The Elementary took the victory, 8-6.
Tim’s Motors took on Allgas in the 13-15 year-old league in the second game of the evening. Marcie Pope filled the pitching position for Tim’s Motors and Bella Bain took the mound for Allgas.
Tim’s was unable to produce any first-inning runs despite singles by Peyton Ernst and Rylee Scott.
Allgas had a little more luck at the plate in its first crack at bat. Levi Jones hit a pop fly to center that dropped in for a single and he was advanced to third base on a single by Elly Bain. Jones was brought home on a single to right by Ethan Cantrell.
Bella Bain singled on a blazing grounder to shortstop and Noah Bain brought two baserunners in on a hard shot to left.
Allgas led Tim’s Motors 3-0 at the end of the first.
Marcie Pope tripled for Tim’s Motors and was brought across the plate by a grounder to shortstop to make the score 3-1.
Allgas then got on a hot streak at the plate with Tyler Lee and Levi Jones both hitting singles and Ethan Cantrell and Bella Bain swatting doubles. Allgas found itself with a 14-2 lead as the game progressed.
Tim’s was able to mount a comeback and close the gap, but Allgas took the victory, 14-7.
