It was all fun and games Sunday as Milner Recreation Center celebrated its official grand opening with dedications, food, and activities.

McMinnville Parks and Recreation officials estimate around 250 guests visited with some even starting classes in the new facility.

Admission was free to everyone for the first official Sunday the center was open.

McMinnville Fire Department placed their booth in the wellness center, showing the new workout equipment including the new weight room which will have longer open hours for those who want to begin their workout early in the morning.

McMinnville Police Department was stationed in front of the new indoor tennis court located upstairs. Matt Laxson and his family were enjoying the area using it to play soccer. Laxson said, “It looks gre+at. I would like to see some indoor soccer being played here.”

Adam Lewis and Tracie McCord tried out the racquetball court on the second floor. They enjoyed the celebration event but found themselves playing racquetball for a while.

“This is our first time playing if you couldn’t tell,” Lewis said. The two claimed they weren’t skilled in the sport, but that didn’t stop them from having fun.

Along with the new courts opening, some classes already started. The cycling class was well underway during the event and has weekly classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Other weekly classes include Zumba, boxing, yoga and more.

Larry C. Boyd was the lucky winner of the six-month membership and Wander Brown won the one-year membership during the drawing. You can find the schedule of class times and membership prices on McMinnville’s website or contact McMinnville Parks and Recreation.
