Undefeated teams clashed at Bobby Ray field Saturday when two Warren County midget league football teams took the field.The Blue Raiders were trying to keep a two-year unbeaten record intact, but the Vols were threatening to take over the top spot in the standings.Outstanding performances by quarterback Clay Thompson and running back C.J. Taylor led the Blue Raiders to a 16-6 win Saturday to move the team to 6-0 overall.Thompson gave the Blue Raiders an early lead when he scored on a quarterback sneak in the first half. Taylor added the two-point conversion run to make it 8-0.The Vols answered back by relying on their own backfield tandem. Running back Jalyn Mart carried the ball several times down the field and quarterback Joseph Lanier took the ball in for six to bring the game back to within two.Mart was stuffed on the two-point conversion as the Blue Raiders went into halftime leading 8-6.The Blue Raiders got the ball to start the second half and mounted a drive that would span the entire third quarter and some of the fourth.Thompson converted two fourth-and-short runs during the drive as the Blue Raiders kept the Vol defense off balance with the one-two combination of Thompson and Taylor.When the Blue Raiders reached the Vol goal line with seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter, it was Taylor who would get the call.
