The WCMS and WCHS cross country teams went to Manchester Tuesday and had individuals shine in the Coffee County Invitational. Both groups had runners place in the top 10 of crowded fields in two-mile races (middle school) and 5Ks (high school).
The WCMS top runners were Elizabeth Meadows (ninth place, 16:04), Mary Lou Margeson (fifth place, 15:01) and Lucas Rhea (fifth place, 13:32). Claire Randal, finished eighth in the girls race with a 15:48 time.
The WCHS boys cross country team took second in the high school competition 5K while the Lady Pioneers saw Valery Esparza finish 10th individually with a time of 23:35. Isaac Stefanick was the top Pioneer, placing third in a 86-racer field with a time of 18:43 in Manchester. Other top-20 finishers for the WCHS boys were Jorge Vazquez (15th, 19:48), Cooper Bailey (17th, 2:18), Julian Martinez (19th, 20:23) and Andrew Key (20th, 20:23). The Pioneers had 74 team points, more than Coffee County's winning low number of 36 but just in front of Shelbyville's 81.
Boyd has also gotten into the action in cross country this year. Here are the times for the Broncos and the Lady Broncos in their first run Sept. 7 at Hermitage, part of TSIAA's Week 1 of racing.
