Leave it to a team named Letitia Lane Photography to have a picture-perfect performance Tuesday night in girls senior league action at Pete Holt Field.
Riding a dominant performance by pitcher Maddie Cantrell, Letitia Lane Photography improved to 2-0 with an 11-1 victory over Tennessee Warehouse.
Cantrell had nine strikeouts – adding to her league-leading total of 19 – while allowing six hits to earn her second victory this season. Cantrell also had two hits in the contest as her team rolled to its second straight double-digit victory.
Tennessee Warehouse threatened to open the scoring when Kensley Whiteaker led the game off with an infield single, but she was caught trying to steal home on a passed ball. Catcher Erin Lane scooped the ball and made the tag to give Letitia Lane Photography an early boost of momentum.
The team took that energy to the plate as Lane drew a one-out walk, followed by a single by Cantrell. Clean-up hitter Carigan Aughinbaugh came up and laced the ball down the left-field line for a two-run double to break the early tie. Aughinbaugh would score later on a RBI single by Natalie Bond as Letitia Lane Photography took a 3-0 lead.
Cantrell had to battle out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning following singles by Cierra Martin and Kinsley Lorance, along with a walk issued to Peyton Youngblood. Cantrell was able to escape trouble with her third strikeout of the frame.
Letitia Lane Photography added two runs to its lead in the bottom of the second inning. Icie Mae Craven and Hannah Coates each received free passes while Morgan Keel supplied a RBI groundout before Shonacye Rutledge doubled to score Coates.
The lead would swell to 7-0 in the third inning. Cantrell and Aughinbaugh led off the inning with singles off Kassie McCarty before both scored on groundouts by Abi Ellis and Bond.
Cassie Scruggs gave Tennessee Warehouse a huge boost in the top of the fourth inning when she drilled a pitch to the right-field wall. Nobody was going to stop Scruggs as she circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run.
It was only of of six hits given up by Cantrell though as she limited the visitors to a lone run in the contest.
Letitia Lane Photography would get the run back and more in the fifth inning when the game ended by mercy rule.
Rutledge led off the inning with a single and was joined on base by Lane when she drew her second walk. Rutledge would come in to score on a passed ball during Aughinbaugh’s at-bat, which also ended in a free pass. Ellis would be issued a walk as well, loading the bases for Bond with one out. Bond hit a bouncing ball back to McCarty on the mound that allowed Lane to score and make it 9-1 with two away.
Instead of going to a final inning though, Kara Teasley ended the game when she slammed a ball back through the middle that brought in Aughinbaugh and Ellis for the win.
Cantrell, Aughinbaugh and Rutledge led Letitia Lane Photography with two hits while Bond and Teasley finished with one each.
Whiteaker, Scrugges, Martin, Lorance, Youngblood and Madison Ledbetter finished with one hit each for Tennessee Warehouse, which fell to 0-2 this season.
McCarty took the loss as she pitched five innings and allowed 11 runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking eight.
Girls senior league action resumes Tuesday, May 27 when Hall’s Backhoe, also 2-0, takes on Tennessee Warehouse at 5:30 p.m. on Pete Holt Field.
