MaryElla Lee and Rachel Stewart are emerging as two of the top girls tennis players in the Midstate.
Lee and Stewart were big winners last week for the Lady Pioneers, sweeping their singles matchups while teaming together to win in doubles against both DeKalb County and White County. Their success led the Warren County girls to a 9-0 victory in Smithville, though the team would fall in Sparta 6-3.
Lee started the week by cruising to victories over the Lady Tigers Tuesday. Lee took down Faith Judkins 8-0 after teaming with Rachel Stewart to beat Judkins and Hannah McBride 8-2.
Facing a district rival Thursday, Lee and Stewart were the lone Lady Pioneers to pick up wins. Lee and Stewart each won their singles matches and teamed for a doubles victory.
Other singles winners for the Lady Pioneers against DeKalb County included Zoe Wilcher defeating Ashlee Thompson 8-2, Haleigh Arnold and Randi Apple each winning 8-6 and Erica Cantrell taking down Sadie Driver 8-3.
In doubles, Wilcher and Arnold paired to win 9-7 while Apple and Cantrell were 8-2 winners in the No. 3 doubles matchup.
The Lady Pioneers will be back in action with a pair of games this week. Warren County is set to face Livingston Academy Tuesday and Stone Memorial Thursday.
