Championship contests normally go down to the wire, but the Irving College Lady Tigers made sure the Morrison Ruritan girls title game was already decided by halftime. The Lady Tigers ran out to a 16-point halftime lead over the Boyd Lady Broncos and didn’t let up while winning 38-18 Saturday night. Irving College had to go through Centertown and Dibrell to advance to the championship, but the Lady Tigers looked like a fresh team when the championship game began at Morrison Elementary gym.The Lady Tiger defense was stifling, allowing only two Boyd points in the first quarter. Cheslee Curtis, Caylie Sherrell and Callie Cathcart – each an all-tournament honoree for Irving College – had one basket apiece in the opening period to push the Lady Tigers ahead 6-2.Cathcart, the eventual tournament MVP, found her shot in the second quarter to push Irving College ahead for good.
