Lady Pioneers win big; Pioneers fall, 66-63

Kyra Perkins fights in the paint against Franklin Road Christian on Friday night.

The WCHS Lady Pioneer basketball team was on the right side of a blowout Friday night at Charlie Dalton Gym.

The Lady Pioneers started the season by blasting Franklin Road Christian, 71-22.

Warren County had control from the start and overpowered Franklin Road Christian in every aspect of competition. Sable Winfree led Warren County with 13 points.

The 1-0 start is a great way to begin the season for second-year coach Anthony Lippe.

The WCHS boys weren't as fortunate against a Friendship Road Christian squad that did everything right and left McMinnville with a 66-63 win.

The loss was surprising.

C.J. Taylor led Warren County with 24 points. Aiden Cummings added 14.

Friendship Road Christian did its impression of the Boston Celtics from the 1980s. The Minutemen were fundamentally sound. They boxed out. They passed the ball around. They took high-percentage shots. They created turnovers with solid defense. They were steady from the foul line. They beat a team that was athletically superior.

Both WCHS teams play Saturday at Charlie Dalton Gym against Community High School.
