The WCHS freshman girls basketball team jumped all over Grundy County on Monday night, ending the season with a 58-31 victory.
The win allows the Lady Pioneers to finish their season 4-2.
“I’m excited about this bunch because there’s a lot of good talent that’s going to help our high school team,” said freshman coach Brent Warren. “We finished the season the way we wanted to finish. These girls are going to help our program get to where it needs to be.”
Brienne Kelsey led the Lady Pioneers with 19 points, 17 coming in the first half. She made three 3-pointers. Kyra Perkins followed with 14 points.
Playing on the road, the Lady Pioneers were up 18-11 after the first quarter and used their press to pull away. It was 37-17 at the half.
“We pressed a lot and that led to a lot of steals and easy layups,” said coach Warren. “Even with a big lead, I was impressed with how we kept playing and didn’t let up.”
Other scorers for WCHS were Savannah Winfree with seven, Jaycie Hodges with six, Mia Hobbs and Addison Johnson with four each, Alyssa Mosley and Emeri Cummings with two each.
Coach Warren says there is no postseason tournament at the freshman level.
