Lady Pioneers get first win

It was all good for the Warren County Middle School tennis teams when they took the courts at McMinnville Civic Center Thursday against Algood Middle School.The Lady Pioneers picked up their first win of the season by defeating Algood 5-4, while the Pioneers moved to 6-0 with a 9-0 sweep of the Algood boys.Much to the delight of coach Susan Barrett, the Lady Pioneers came out and won five-of-six singles matchups to get a much-sought-after first victory.Six-to-two seemed to be the lucky charm for the Warren County girls against Algood. Each of the top four seeds for the Lady Pioneers won by identical 6-2 scores.Eighth grader Tomomi Yago got the Lady Pioneers started when she defeated Lindy Gaw 6-2. Sixth grader Lauren Hennessee followed with a set victory over Madison King.By the time Kendal Smith had defeated Natalie Crooks and Caitlyn Phillips prevailed over Sara Gaw, the Lady Pioneers were just one win shy of clinching the match.Caitlyn Phillips finally broke the string of 6-2 games.
