Two home runs and solid pitching by Sadie Simmons and Madison Hollis helped the WCHS Lady Pioneers beat DeKalb County in their first game of the Coffee County Tournament in Manchester on Friday night.
Warren County outhit DeKalb County 10-3 and finished the game on top 8-2. DeKalb County jumped out to a 1-0 lead that held until the Lady Pioneers erupted for 5 runs in the third.
Alyssa Mosley and Taylor Swan were both hit by pitches to start the third. Shelby Roberts knocked in Mosley for the first run with a hit to right field. Elia Atterson was the next Warren County batter and she knocked in two runs with a home run to center field. The Lady Pioneers ended the inning with five runs and a 5-1 lead.
DeKalb responded in the bottom of the third with a solo home run that cut the Warren County lead to 5-2. Rhealee Johnson hit a 2-run homer in the top of the fourth that knocked in Shelby Roberts who had gotten on base with one of her three hits. Johnson’s home run increased the Lady Pioneers lead to 7-2.
The final Lady Pioneers’ run came on Alyssa Mosley’s double in the fifth that knocked in Cadi Todd who was running for pitcher Sadie Simmons. Madison Hollis shut out DeKalb County in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Sadie Simmons started and pitched 4.0 innings with 3 strikeouts and gave up 3 hits and 2 earned runs.
Madison Hollis came in and relieved Simmons for the final inning and gave up no hits and no runs.
