What does the Warren County High School soccer team have in common with a tornado? They both leave destruction in their wake.
The Lady Pioneers crushed Cascade 8-1 Monday night at home, winning their fourth straight match and improving their record to 7-1 in the process.
After suffering its first loss Sept. 17 to Cookeville, Warren County has been on a mission to destroy every team in its path. The Lady Pioneers have won their last four matches by a combined score of 27-2, a dominant stretch that has been fueled by senior all-state players Morgan McCormick and Ansley Mullican.
Both players recorded hat tricks against Cascade Monday. Mullican, who has scored in every game, pushed her season scoring total to 20 goals with her fifth hat trick in eight games. It was McCormick’s third hat trick as she has now scored 16 goals.
Mullican started the scoring seven minutes into the game with goal off an assist from McCormick. The Lady Pioneers would have to wait to the midway point of the first half to score again, but the wait was worth it when the home team reeled off four goals in an 11-minute stretch.
McCormick made it 2-0 with 20 minutes to play in the first half when she broke through the Cascade defense to score. Four minutes later, the senior striker did it again to push the Lady Pioneer lead to three.
Not to be outdone, Mullican scored her second goal off an assist from freshman Madison Mason with 14 minutes left in the first half.
Mason would conclude the scoring by the home team four minutes later when she finished off a perfect pass from McCormick to make it 5-0.
Cascade caught the Lady Pioneers relaxing 30 seconds later with a goal, but it would be the only score for the visitors.
Mullican and McCormick each got their hat tricks in the first seven minutes of the second half to make it 7-1, then coach Todd Willmore went to his bench to finish the game.
The Lady Pioneers added their final goal in the closing minutes as freshman Natalie Reed notched an assist on sophomore Olivia Ming’s first varsity goal.
Warren County went for its fifth straight victory last night in Cumberland County. The score of the District 6-AAA contest wasn’t available at press time.
