When the Warren County Middle School softball team was supposed to start its season last Thursday, the Lady Pioneers waited and waited in the home dugout for the sight of Franklin South Middle School’s bus to appear. It never did and the Lady Pioneers had to go home without a game before appearing in the DeKalb County tournament.Perhaps Franklin South Middle School knew just how good the Lady Pioneers were. Warren County opened its season by winning five games in Smithville en route to the DeKalb County tournament championship.Coach Gooby Martin came into the season looking to replace seven starters from last year’s team that won a regular-season Central Tennessee Conference title.
