The Warren County High School softball team, coming off a loss to the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats on the road Monday night, bounced back nicely Tuesday in Cumberland County, defeating the Cumberland County Lady Jets.
The Lady Pioneers put on a show at the plate, scoring 12 runs on 14 hits on their way to a 12-2 victory. Hailey Wood led all batters, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored.
Skyler Youngblood added three RBIs. Abby Hutchins and Emily Mikkola also contributed, adding two RBIs apiece. Lindsey Cox earned the win on the mound, striking out seven and allowing two runs in five innings of work
With the win, the Lady Pioneers improve to 8-7 on the season.
The Lady Pioneers got the scoring going early in the top of the first by scoring four runs courtesy of a fielder’s choice, an RBI single by Youngblood, and finished off with Hutchins hitting a two-run home run to left field, 4-0.
The Lady Jets hit a double off Cox in the bottom of the inning, but that was all they managed to do as they failed to score.
The Lady Pioneers added three more runs in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single by Wood, followed by a sacrifice fly by Youngblood, and an RBI double by Hutchins, 7-0.
Cox handled the Lady Jets in the bottom of the inning, sitting them down in order, keeping the score the same after two. After the Lady Pioneer bats cooled down in the top of the third, the Lady Jets finally put some runs on the board in the bottom of the inning.
An error by the Lady Pioneers and a sacrifice fly by the Lady Jets helped them cut into the Lady Pioneer lead, 7-2, after three.
The Lady Pioneers put the game certainly out of reach in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs off timely hitting, 11-2. The Lady Jets didn’t have an answer for Cox the rest of the way and the Lady Pioneers added one more run to prevail, 12-2.
The Lady Pioneers were back in action Thursday night as they traveled to Tullahoma to take on the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats for the second time this week, looking to avenge their loss Monday night.
