The inaugural season for the Covenant High School girls team in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference came to a close Tuesday night as the Lady Lions lost to Christian Community 35-24 in the opening round of the MTAC tournament.Katherine Shelton scored a team-high nine points for Covenant in the contest played at Manchester Recreational Center, but no other Lady Lion scored more than four in the loss. Coach Alan Smith hoped before the season that his young squad – featuring one sophomore and one freshman – would gain some experience playing at the MTAC level. The progress of the Lady Lions, who finished 4-10, throughout the season was something coach Smith feels gives his program a leg up heading into next season.“We really wanted our teams to go out and compete.
