The Eastside Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Tigers of Irving College on Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs ran away early in the game and never looked back. Eastside finished off the Lady Tigers by a final score of 34-14.
Savannah Winfree for Eastside was the high scorer with 15 points.
The Lady Bulldogs went on a run early in the first quarter led by Shelby Smartt. The Lady Tigers defense did not have an answer for Smartt and she dropped in eight of her 11 points in the opening quarter. Emeri Cummings and Savannah Winfree added to the Eastside total and the Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to 13-3.
Jessie Young for Irving College managed to find her way through the Lady Bulldog defense and she provided the offense for the Lady Tigers.
In the second quarter, Breezy Wanamaker took over the Lady Tiger offense and she showed off her talents and got to the basket on several occasions. Wanamaker scored all six points in the second for Irving College. The Lady Tigers were 0-for-3 at the charity stripe before the half.
It was a slow quarter for the Lady Bulldogs as the Irving College defense dug its claws in and held Eastside to just four points. The game's top scorer led the second for Eastside as she accounted for all four points before the break.
At the half, Eastside led Irving College 17-9.
After the half the Lady Bulldogs came out with new vigor and played their best half of the game. The Lady Bulldogs pursued the ball with relentless pressure on the ball and scoring opportunities were few and far between.
Offensive threat Mia Hobbs for Irving College was held to just two points the entire game and those two came in the third quarter. Wanamaker knocked down a 3-point shot in hopes of closing the gap between the two teams.
It was all Eastside in the fourth quarter and the defensive stand took its toll on the Lady Tigers and shots would just not fall for Irving College.
All eight points scored in the final period were scored by the Lady Bulldogs. Sable Winfree scored two of her four points in the fourth.
Tremendous defensive pressure by the Lady Bulldogs on defense led them to a 34-14 win over the Lady Tigers.
