Irving College’s 7-8 girls gave Eastside a competitive game Thursday night at Eastside.
The 7-8 Lady Bulldogs and Irving College Lady Tigers were tied 15-15 at halftime, and Eastside pulled ahead by a point at the end of three quarters, 25-24. Sarah Kate Winfree scored 9 of her 30 points in the fourth quarter to help Eastside pull away from Irving College for a 37-28 victory.
After the game, Sarah Kate Winfree said, “We started out shaky, not on top of our game. We played better as a team in the fourth quarter.”
Alyssa Parsley, Eastside’s starting center, recently fractured her foot and is out for the season. Adjusting to Parsley’s absence is one reason Eastside struggled early in the game.
Eastside head coach Kyle Cannon reviewed the game, “They played good defense against us, and we were sloppy in the beginning. We were not focused and not playing together tonight. We got away from playing good defense. We were not rotating as we should. We were not getting to their 3-point shooters. They were outhustling and outrebounding us. In the fourth quarter, we tightened it down on defense, and finally started rebounding a little bit. We slowed it down on offense and finally scored a few.”
