It didn’t take long for the Eastside Lady Bulldogs to avenge a finals loss in the Morrison Ruritan tournament to the Boyd Lady Broncos. In a regular-season rematch at J.K. Stanley Gymnasium, Eastside scored the first 13 points en route to a 32-17 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.Boyd and Eastside each entered the game 1-0 and featured two of the top scorers in the 7-8 grade Warren County elementary girls league.Eastside’s Lanae Hodge and Boyd’s Rhiannon Hoover showed why they’re considered two of the best players in the league as both scored 10 points Monday, but it was Hodge’s team who got the big win.The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-0 advantage after the first quarter as Hodge, Tevan Holder and Rylan Moore each scored near the basket and Shyenne Blanton drilled a 3-pointer.The lead jumped into double figures in the second quarter as Hodge and Moore each hit layups to make it 13-0.Boyd got its first basket with four minutes left in the first half when Hoover bombed away from the top of the key and hit her first of three 3-pointers.Hodge would finish out the quarter with two more baskets though, while Boyd’s only other score came on a jumper by Elissa Cason. Behind eight first-half points from Hodge, Eastside led 17-5 at the break. The balanced offense of the Lady Bulldogs was on display in the third quarter as Hodge didn’t have to score for her team to increase its lead.Moore connected on two more layups to lead the way in the third quarter. Holder added a jumper from the left wing, Jayden Smith sank a hook shot from the right block and fourth-grader MaKenna Mason swished a free throw as the Lady Bulldogs built a 26-8 lead entering the fourth quarter.Hoover would heat up in the final period, but it was too little, too late for the Lady Broncos.
