The Boyd Lady Broncos seized control early to beat county rival Covenant Academy in high school basketball action Saturday at Boyd.

On a night when Boyd celebrated Homecoming by crowning a king and queen, the Lady Broncos played like royalty on the court in earning a 50-25 win.

Alaina Stiles was the top scorer for Boyd with 14 points. She was followed by Kapri Talley with 12.

Covenant’s Naina Patal was the game-high scorer with 15. Unfortunately, she didn’t get much offensive help from her teammates as the next high scorer for Covenant only netted 4.

Boyd grabbed an early lead as Talley scored 6 points in the opening quarter and Stiles drained a 3-pointer to help the Lady Broncos go up 14-3.

Patel tried to single-handedly keep Covenant Academy close. She scored 8 points in the opening half, but the Lady Lions only scored 9 points as a team. Boyd was ahead 27-9 at the break.

Covenant was never able to get the deficit to single digits in the second half.
