Boyd Christian Schools Breanna Jones puts the ball into play this season during 7-8 grade basketball action.

Poor shooting from the charity stripe in fourth-quarter action spelled trouble for the Centertown Lady Warriors on Monday, as they lost 26-23 to the Lady Broncos in the first round of the 7-8 grade tournament.
Centertown, down by just 1 point after three quarters, 17-16, went to the line four times in the fourth and couldn’t convert on any, going 0-for-4.
Boyd Christian School went 1-for-2 in the fourth, but worked inside for 8 points while a trey by Lady Warrior Krista Chisam and two more buckets didn’t close the earlier deficit.
“We got off to a fast start,” said Boyd head coach Allison Stiles. “Centertown made some good defensive adjustments that slowed us down offensively. Our girls picked up the pressure and made some big plays late in the game to get the win. It was a great team effort.”
Jaden Smartt got into double digits for the Lady Warriors hitting a game-high 13 points while Chisam scored 8 and Madison Hollis hit for 2 points.
Boyd got contributions from Breanna Jones scoring 8 points, Alaina Stiles 7, Anna Jones 5, Sydney Burger 4 and Abby Blanton with 2 points.
The win moves the Lady Broncos into round two of the WCEBA 7-8 grade tournament where they will face No. 1 seeded Dibrell Lady Wildcats on Thursday at Warren County High School. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
