Dream up the most painful way for the Warren County High School football team to lose a game, then sit back on Friday night and see your nightmares come true.The Pioneers were dealt another gut-wrenching loss Friday night when Smith County scored in the final minute to down Warren County 27-25 on senior night.The memory of a 41-38 overtime loss to Stone Memorial – a contest the Pioneers led by 10 with five minutes to play – was still fresh when Warren County took the field Friday night against the Owls. Playing with a chance to send 15 seniors out with a bang, the Pioneers held a late lead because of second-half touchdowns by seniors Drew Davidson and Lee Carden – along with senior quarterback Hunter Mullican’s two-point conversion run. Instead of it being the proper send off for the Pioneer seniors though, the Owls spoiled the night when Grant Williams dove into the endzone with 53.1 seconds left for the game-winning touchdown.Warren County (1-6) again couldn’t protect a late lead as the Owls took advantage of their final drive to improve to 3-4 this season.The Pioneers had surged ahead with 6:13 to go when Davidson busted loose and broke several arm tackles on a 49-yard touchdown run.
