Teams compete in warmup for kickball tournament

With the Smokin’ in McMinnville Kickball tournament set to get underway this Saturday, two teams competing in the tournament went at it Thursday night at the Civic Center on the Hoover and Millraney Field.The Kickabollicz and the Playground Bullies went six innings of back-and-forth kickball in a competitive game throughout, but the Playground Bullies came away with the victory, 4-3.Dustin Lee got the start on the mound for Kickabollicz and Lisa Butcher started on the mound for the Playground Bullies.In the win, Mitchell McCorkle led the way at the plate as he went 3-for-4 in the contest. Holden Carter, Randy Butcher and Corbin Hildreth had two kicks apiece.Crystal Lee led the way at the plate for Kickabollicz as she went 3-for-4 with three singles. Hobie Stewart and Adam Lee each added inside-the-park home runs.In the top of the first inning, the Playground Bullies got on the board first thanks to Baker’s inside-the-park home run to lead off the inning and Hailey Jones’ RBI triple to put the Playground Bullies up by two, 2-0.Kickabollicz went down in order in the bottom of the inning as they kicked three straight popups to end the inning.Neither team managed to score in the second and after the Playground Bullies scored two more runs in the top of the third to extend its lead to four, 4-0, Kickabollicz needed an answer.Kickabollicz got its answer in the bottom of the inning courtesy of Adam Lee’s inside-the-park home run, to cut the Playground Bullies lead to three, 4-1, after three.After the Playground Bullies failed to score any runs in the final three innings of play, despite having runners on base, Kickabollicz scored a run in the fourth and then again in the sixth, to trim the lead to one thanks to a Stewart inside-the-park-home run, 4-3.
